We frequently get asked these questions;  to make it easy here are the answers.

What About Workshops Cancellations and Refunds?

We rely on your attendance to make workshop arrangements. If for any reason you have to withdraw from a workshop, please notify us of your cancellation more than 14 days before the start of your workshop. Digital Media Playground will refund you 50% of the cost of your workshop.

If notification of cancellation is given between 14 – 0  days before the start of your workshop we will retain there will be no refund.

If you are traveling to get to the workshop, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance and not purchasing non-refundable airline tickets.

There are no Refunds for:

  • failure to arrive for a class
  • costs incurred by participants for any travel purchased for a class that is cancelled

Instructor Replacement

It is the nature of photography that the professionals who teach here are sometimes unable to lead a specific workshop because of last minute professional engagements. In such cases, we make every attempt to find a suitable replacement. We will attempt to notify all those registered for the class, but since replacements are often made only a few days before a class begins, notification may be impossible.

Course Cancellation

Occasionally we are forced to cancel a workshop, usually because of insufficient enrollment (there is a 4 person minimum for each workshop) or an instructor has been called away and we are unable to find a suitable replacement. In such cases, we reach out to you about your options for alternate workshops. If another workshop is not acceptable to you, we will refund all fees paid. Substitution of an instructor is not sufficient cause for withdrawal and, therefore, no refunds will be made to students who choose not to attend a workshop taught by a substitute.


In the event that we cancel a workshop for which you have registered, the extent of Digital Media Playground liability is limited to the return of all fees paid. In all cases, we will do everything we can to make it possible for you to enroll in another workshop. Digital Media Playground will not be responsible for reimbursement of non-refundable airline tickets due to cancellation of a course. We strongly urge you not to purchase refundable airline tickets and to purchase travel insurance.

Digital Media Playground reserves the right to substitute instructors, and as far as possible, will inform students of the substitution. Occasionally substitutions are last minute and we are unable to notify students prior to their arrival.

Where Are The Workshops Taught?

Keeping with the personal experience we try to evoke at the playground, most of our workshops are taught in the photographer/instructors studio space.  All of our food photography/styling workshops are taught in our new West Oakland home office, where we have converted part of a floor into a studio space;  lots of room to shoot in and natural light.

Is There Parking?

The studio spaces have free street parking near them.  As well as public transportation (BART) near by.

What Does The Price Include?

All of our hands-on workshops are all day (10:00 am – 4:00 pm) so we include a working lunch as well as beverages.  Props for the workshop are also included.  All you need to bring is you, your camera and a laptop and a desire to learn.  Easy.

Do You Offer Private Lessons?
